Ninnukori Varanam

Ninnukori Varanam -- Part I

I've always wanted to transcribe music notes for this song. I finally ended up starting this project yesterday. Here's my attempt at dissecting this song.

Caranatic Raagam: Mohanam
Aro: s r2 g p d2 s
Avaro: s d2 p g r2 s

Nin nu kO riiiiiii va ra nam va ra nam isai thida
g g r ssrrggrr r r s d d s sr s r

With a defined set of notes, we are now ready to come up with chord possibilities. In the D major scale, the notes above can be translated as follows:
s = D

r2 = E
g = F#
p = A
d = B

Here are the chord possibilties:
DMaj = 1+3+5 = D+F#+A
Bm = 1+b3+5 = B+D+F#
D6 = 1+3+5+6 = D+F#+A+B ( or Bm7)
Esus4 = 1+4+5 = E+A+B
Esus7 = 1+4+5+b7 = E+A+B+D (or Esus dom7th)

Now film music does not always strictly follow the raagam through out the song. In fact, that's what makes the song more vibrant in that you can go outside the realm of the defined set of notes in the raagam. If you listen to the song carefully, you'll hear the G note many times. After adding the G note, we get a wider set of chord possibilities. Here are some more in addition to the above set:

Asus4 = 5+8+9 = A+D+E (or Dsus2)
Bsus4 = 6+9+10 = B+E+F# (or Esus2)
Gmaj7 = 1+3+5+7 = G+B+D+F#
Em = 1+b3+5 = E+G+B

More to come in Part II... Stay tuned.
